Happy Valentine’s Day!

Even though it’s not the biggest holiday on our radar, Valentine’s Day is always a fun day to recognize those we love in our lives, whether it’s a partner, friends, or family. Here at Western New England, we’ve always found fun ways to either celebrate love, or allow those that may not enjoy the holiday as much as others find something fun to do anyway.

In the past we’ve shared some blasts from the past of Valentine’s traditions long forgotten. The most significant, if not at least the most formal celebration seems to have been the annual Valentine’s Day dance, a popular affair in the 1950s.

Instead of posting more, we want you to explore on your own! Visit the University Archives Digital Collections, and type “Valentine” into the search box at the top right hand corner of the homepage, and see what you can find! Perhaps when things are back to normal, it will be a good opportunity reinvigorate the social calendar with some fun, new (or old!) traditions.

Happy hunting, and Happy Valentine’s Day! Tell us if you find something you LOVE!
